Ballycotton, a folk music group from Austria, formed in April 1996 under the initial name Glakijamus. The band began by performing Irish, Spanish, and Russian folk standards before renaming themselves after Ballycotton, a small fishing village in southern Ireland. Their first release was the maxi-CD Joanna’s Wedding in 1997, followed by their debut album Fairytale later the same year. Ballycotton toured across Europe and Asia, including performances in Taiwan. Throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s, the group released several albums, including À la Cut, Mondland, Eyla, and Jenseits vom Ende der Zeit. In 2005, they released the documentary film Ballycotton – Portrait of a Band.
