Jorge Scibona, known professionally as Jorge Morel, and born on May 9, 1931, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, is a classical guitarist and composer. He began studying guitar at age seven under his father's guidance and later trained at Pablo Escobar's academy. After graduating, Morel left Argentina to perform in Ecuador, Colombia, and Cuba, recording his first solo LP. His breakthrough came with support from Vladimir Bobri, leading to a debut at Carnegie Hall in 1961. Morel recorded several albums for Decca Records and performed at venues like Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall and Queen Elizabeth Hall. He collaborated with jazz legends during his performances at The Village Gate in New York City. Throughout the 1970s, Morel was represented by Columbia Artists Management, touring extensively. His compositional work included Suite del Sur, premiered with the Los Angeles Philharmonic under Zubin Mehta's direction. Morel passed on February 10, 2021, in Orlando, Florida.
