Louis Philip Kentner, born Lajos Kentner on July 19, 1905 in Karwin, Austrian Silesia (present-day Czech Republic), was a Hungarian-born British pianist. He studied at the Royal Academy of Music in Budapest and began his concert career at age 15. Kentner won the 5th Prize at the II International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw in 1932 and moved to England in 1935 with his wife, pianist Ilona Kabos. Notable performances include the Hungarian premiere of Béla Bartók's Piano Concerto No. 2 in 1933 and the world premiere of Bartók's Concerto for Two Pianos, Percussion and Orchestra in 1942. Kentner was President of the British Liszt Society until his death on September 23, 1987.
