Chocolate, a 5-piece cumbia band from Uruguay, was formed in 1995. The group gained significant popularity with their hit single "Mayonesa", which blended elements of candombe and murga. Their breakthrough album, Mayonesa Para Todo El Mundo, was released in 2001 and included the title track as well as other notable songs like "Loreley" and "Arriba Malena". Chocolate achieved considerable success, earning multiple gold and platinum records across Latin America. In February 2002, they performed at the 43rd Festival Internacional de la Canción de Viña del Mar alongside another group led by Juan Carlos Cáceres, Nietos del futuro. The band faced internal conflicts in September 2001 when four members left to form Mayonesa, leading to a lineup change and the release of La historia continúa... in 2002. Despite these changes, Chocolate continued performing until their disbandment in 2003.
