Salsa singer-songwriter Ray Sepúlveda was born on February 1, 1959, in Brooklyn, New York, as part of a family with a large musical tradition. His father, Ramon Sepúlveda, was a bolero singer with Trio Los Romanticos, which profoundly influenced his musical path. The family's relocation to Puerto Rico during his teenage years allowed Ray Sepúlveda to immerse himself in the local music scene, performing with groups such as Orquestra La Justicia and Orquestra La Dictadora alongside Frankie Ruiz. His professional music career began to take shape when he returned to New York in 1977, joining Orquestra Sociedad 76 led by Johnny Zamot. Over four years, he contributed to three albums with the band. After a brief hiatus from music, he teamed up with Johnny Zamot again in 1988 to form Johnny & Ray, achieving success with their debut album Salsa Con Clase (1988) and hits like "Mi Amor, Amor" and "Mascarada." In 1991, Ray Sepúlveda embarked on a solo career, releasing Un Poquito Mas (1991). His 1992 album Con Sabor charted highly on the Latin Billboard charts, followed by Llegaste Tú in 1994, produced by Julito Alvarado in Puerto Rico. Subsequent albums such as De Todo un Poco (1997) and ¡Salsabor! (1999) continued his success, with the latter featuring the hit single "Eres." He continued releasing albums in the following decades, establishing himself as an influential figure in the salsa and tropical genre.
