The Diableros were a Canadian rock band formed in Toronto in 2004, fronted by singer-songwriter Pete Carmichael. The group was initiated when founding drummer Phoebe Lee suggested to Carmichael that they play his original songs together. In November 2005, The Diableros released their debut album, You Can't Break the Strings in Our Olympic Hearts, which raised their profile within Toronto and garnered international acclaim upon its re-release on The Baudelaire Label in 2006. The band toured Canada supporting The Stills and were selected as the opening act for Day 2 of Toronto's first Virgin Festival. Their second album, Aren't Ready for the Country, was released in October 2007. Despite lineup changes and personal challenges, they released a five-song EP titled Old Story, Fresh Road in October 2009. The Diableros disbanded in November 2010 due to creative differences. Pete Carmichael died on January 22, 2020.
