Jason Randolph Scheff, born on April 16, 1962, is an American musician known for his roles as a bassist, singer, and songwriter. In mid-1985, at the age of 23, Scheff joined the multiplatinum band Chicago, replacing Peter Cetera. His lead vocals debuted on the 1986 single "25 or 6 to 4", a remake of their 1970 hit, followed by "Will You Still Love Me?". Scheff composed several original songs for the band, including the 1989 top-5 single "What Kind of Man Would I Be?" and co-wrote "Heart of Mine" with Bobby Caldwell and Dennis Matkosky. The song became a hit for Boz Scaggs in 1988. In 1996, Scheff released his first solo album Chauncy. Scheff also convinced the band to record the album Chicago XXX in 2006, enlisting Jay DeMarcus as producer. Scheff left Chicago permanently in October 2016.
