John Anthony Patrick Hurley, known professionally as Jade Hurley, born June 17, 1943, in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, is an Australian country music singer-songwriter and pianist. He began his music career at age 14 with the Rockin' Rebels and went solo with Johnny O'Keefe's help, appearing on the television show Six O'Clock Rock in 1960. He released the single "How I Lied" in 1965, which peaked in the top 30 in Brisbane. Hurley was dubbed "Australia's King of Country Rock" by O'Keefe and became a support act on O'Keefe's live performances. His notable singles include "My Baby Judy" (1965), "I'm Ashamed of You" (1966), and "Down in the Riverina" (1974). He worked on The Mike Walsh Show from the 1970s to the early 1980s. Hurley released several albums, including King of Country Rock (1975), Jade Hurley's 20 Golden Oldens (1979), Solid Gold (1980), and Jade Hurley's Rock N Roll Party (1982). In June 1998, he was awarded the Order of Australia Medal for his service to the entertainment industry.
