Michael Kieran Harvey, born on July 7, 1961 in Sydney, Australia, is a pianist and composer known for his contributions to contemporary music. He studied piano at institutions including the Canberra School of Music and the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest. His breakthrough came in 1993 when he jointly won the International Solo Piano Competition in Pasadena, California. Harvey has premiered numerous Australian concertos and given premieres of works by composers such as Louis Andriessen and Frank Zappa. He has collaborated with notable conductors and performed with orchestras including the Netherlands Philharmonic. Harvey's recordings include Storm Sight (2001) and Rabid Bay (2004), as well as a live recording of Olivier Messiaen’s Catalogue d'oiseaux. In 2005, the Michael Kieran Harvey Scholarship was established in his honor.
