Jade McNelis, born in Taiwan and adopted by an American couple, is a Canadian indie singer-songwriter. She began her musical journey with piano instruction at age four and classical music training. McNelis' career took off when she opened for the band Stars in Tallahassee, Florida, in 2005. Impressed by her performance, the lead singer of Stars facilitated her move to Montreal, where she signed with Good Fences Records. In 2007, she released her debut EP All the Fables, recorded at Studio Plateau in Montreal with producers Chris Seligman and Drew Malamud. The following year, McNelis signed with Chop Shop Records, a California-based label.
