Red Flag was an English and American synth-pop, industrial, and electronic band established in 1984 in San Diego by brothers Chris Reynolds and Mark Reynolds. Their career featured the 1984 recording “Distant Memories” under the name Shades of May. The recording history of the band included the debut single “Broken Heart” (1988) and the album Naïve Art (1989), released through Enigma Records. The singles “Russian Radio” and “If I Ever” reached number 11 and number 12 on the US Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play charts. Their professional activity featured memberships with I.R.S. Records and the 1993 founding of Plan B Records. The band specialized in dark industrial styles with albums including The Crypt (2000) and Codebreaker T133 (2002). Mark Reynolds died on April 7, 2003. As a result, Chris Reynolds resumed professional activity as a solo act in 2007 with the album Born Again. Subsequent releases included Time Is the Reaper (2008) and Endless (2019). The group broke up in 2023.
