Dave Tyack, born on March 4, 1978 in Hannover, Germany, was a British musician known by his stage name Dakota Oak. He began his musical journey recording alone on a four-track, primarily playing bass guitar. His breakthrough came when Andy Votel of Fat City Records signed him to Twisted Nerve Records, leading to the release of his first track on the compilation All Oar Nothing. Tyack's debut full-length album, Am Deister, was released in 2001 and received positive reviews for its originality. He collaborated with various artists, including Badly Drawn Boy and Mum and Dad, and played drums with bands D.O.T. and Misty Dixon. In June 2004, Tyack's body was found on the island of Corsica after he had been missing for almost two years. Posthumously, an album titled Rip Van Winkle featuring his music was released.
