Marisol de las Mercedes Echánove Rojas, known professionally as María del Sol, is a Mexican singer and actress born on September 24, 1961, in Guanajuato. She began her career in 1974 and won the La Voz del Heraldo award in 1979. That year, she received the Best New Artist award at the OTI Festival for the track “Contigo y con el mundo”. del Sol released her debut album, María del Sol, in 1980 and won the Best Singer award at the 1981 Yamaha Festival in Japan. Her 1984 album included the duet “No prometas lo que no será” with Jorge Muñiz. Following Un nuevo amor (1986), she performed in the 1991 telenovela Madres egoístas and the musical Cats. In 1996, del Sol converted to Christianity and subsequently released the album Llegó el amor (2002) and the book Un nuevo amor (2014).
