New album 'In The Mids' out now!
Sola Rosa, the ever-evolving project of Auckland-based producer, songwriter, and musician Andrew Spraggon, remains one of Aotearoa New Zealand’s most inventive and enduring musical voices. With the release of his new album In The Mids, Sola Rosa comes full circle — returning from a period of live-band focus to a renewed exploration of studio production, the very space that first inspired him. The album captures a vibrant collision of electronic, R&B, funk and soul, guided by hip-hop’s sense of groove and texture, balancing dancefloor energy with the intricacy of studio craft. Meticulously constructed and groove-driven, the music is both forward-thinking and timeless, drawing on a loyal global following and top-tier collaborators including Tall Black Guy, Hermitude, and DJ Vadim, while amassing over 65 million streams across DSPs.
Since winning Best Electronic Release for his debut Solarized at the 2001 New Zealand Music Awards, Spraggon has built a career defined by creativity and collaboration. He’s performed at major festivals including Secret Garden Party (UK), Green Man (UK), Shambala (UK), Kendall Calling (UK), Nostock (UK), WOMAD (NZ), Big Day Out (NZ), and Splore (NZ), taking his sound from New Zealand to stages across New York, Los Angeles, London, Paris, and Berlin.
With In The Mids out in the world, Sola Rosa’s journey through studio experimentation and groove-driven production is at the forefront, reinforcing Spraggon’s reputation as one of New Zealand’s most imaginative and consistent modern producers. His music has been praised by MOJO, Rolling Stone, the NZ Herald, and the Sydney Morning Herald, cementing him as an artist who continues to push his sound forward while staying true to the groove.
