Billy Bridge, the first French artist to be signed by the CBS multinational, which had just set up shop in France, received a substantial promotional campaign. Imbued with Presley's repertoire, he was an instant hit. Dubbed the "Prince of Madison", the dance he introduced to France, just three months and two super-45s after his first steps in the music world, he was headlining at the Olympia. In 1964, military service put his career on hold, and he was unable to return to the limelight, contenting himself with composing for others. In 1971, renamed Black Swan, he made an impressive comeback with a hit single, "Echoes And Rainbow", which sold a million copies. His comeback attempt in 1980 was unsuccessful.
