Cheb Sahraoui is an Algerian raï musician and actor who was born as Mohamed Sahraoui in Tlemcen, Algeria, in 1961. He achieved early professional recognition in 1978 with the hit single “Ana Mahlali Noum” and is famous for being the first raï artist to tour North America and for pioneering the use of electronic synthesizers in the genre. In 1983, he established a prominent musical duo with his wife, the singer Chaba Fadela, with whom he recorded the international hit “N'sel Fik” (1983) and the studio recording Walli (1994). The pair performed at major international venues, including the 1986 Bobigny concert alongside Cheb Khaled. Following his emigration to France in 1994, Sahraoui launched a solo career and released the studio recording Un homme libre (A Free Man) (2000).
