Wreck, an indie rock band from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, formed in 1988 with Dean Schlabowske on vocals and guitar, Bart Flores on drums, and Keith Brammer on bass. Their debut release was the self-titled EP Wreck in 1989, produced by Steve Albini and released through Play It Again Sam and Wax Trax! Records. The following year, they released their first full-length album, Soul Train, also produced by Albini. In 1991, Kurt Moore joined on bass for the release of House of Boris. The band's subsequent album, initially titled Your Monkey's on Fire and later re-recorded as El Mundo de los niƱos, was released in 1994 through C/Z Records.
