Nicknamed "Madame Liszt" by one critic, France Clidat began her career with a bang, winning the Competition dedicated to her favorite composer in Budapest in 1956. Thrown into the deep end of the international concert and festival scene, the pianist spared no effort in interpreting not only Liszt's works, but equally those of Mozart, Chopin, Rachmaninov and Erik Satie, whose complete works she recorded. Recognized as one of the great French piano figures of the 1960s-1970s, France Clidat has won awards for her near-complete Liszt works in 24 volumes. The professor at the École Normale de Musique de Paris has also received the official honors of Commandeur des Arts et des Lettres and Officier de la Légion d'honneur.
