Roberto Benzi, born on December 12, 1937, in Marseille, France, is a French-Italian conductor and pianist. As a child prodigy, he conducted his first concert at six years old and studied with André Cluytens, conducting professionally by age 11. Benzi served as the musical director of the Orchestre Bordeaux Aquitaine from 1972 to 1987. He released several albums, including José Carreras Sings Donizetti, Bellini, Verdi, Mercadante, Ponchielli (1976). Benzi was honored with the Chevalier of the Légion d'honneur (1974) and the Ordre national du Mérite (1971).
