Sidney Selby, known professionally as Guitar Crusher, was born on July 28, 1931, in Hyde County, North Carolina. He moved to New York City at age 15 to pursue a career in blues and gospel music. His first single, "Cuddle Up", was released on his own label T&S in 1960. Selby gained the nickname "Guitar Crusher" after using his guitar as a club to eject unruly patrons while working as a bouncer in a New York club. In 1982, he moved to Europe with Nick Katzman and played at major festivals with European and US artists. His notable albums include Googa Mooga (1993) and Message to Man (1995). Shortly before his death, Selby appeared in the television series Babylon Berlin (Season 1, Episode 8), where he played a blues singer. He passed away in Berlin on September 23, 2020.
