A Northern Irish band formed in Belfast in 1984, The Adventures was formed around singer Terry Sharpe, a former member of Starjets, and principal songwriter Pat Gribben. Based in London, they signed with the Chrysalis label and released their debut album Theodore and Friends (1985), which featured three chart-topping hits, including "Send My Heart". In 1988, the band scored its biggest hit with the song "Broken Land" (#20 in the UK), from the album The Sea of Love, recorded for Elektra with a more powerful production, whereas the usual style is more rooted in romantic, atmospheric new wave pop, with jangle pop accents and Celtic touches. Rated No. 30, The Sea of Love was followed in 1990 by Trading Secrets with the Moon (1990) and Lion and Tigers and Bears (1993), whose commercial failure led to separation, despite the efforts of manager Simon Fuller, future creator of the Pop Idol and American Idol TV concepts. Since then, The Adventures have reunited for a few concerts in the 2000s and in 2019, then more regularly, going so far as to record a fifth album, Once More with Feeling, released in 2025.
