Flat Black is the heavy metal band formed in 2023 by guitarist Jason Hook after his departure from Fiver Finger Death Punch. After leaving his previous band in 2020, just before the pandemic, Hook sought creative freedom and the chance to build something truly personal. So he composed Flat Black with young musicians, singer Wes Horton, bassist Nick Diltz and drummer Rob Pierce, with the aim of creating a new alchemy, mixing brutal riffs, catchy choruses and stadium-bound anthems. After signing with Fearless Records, the band released three singles in 2023, "Halo", "It's Your Lack of Respect" and "Justice Will Be Done" respectively , before unveiling "Nothing to Some", featuring Corey Taylor, and the video for "Sideways" the following year . Throughout the year, the band worked on their debut album Dark Side of the Brain, recorded in Las Vegas and released in July 2024. The album, which includes all the above-mentioned tracks, also includes the surprise hit "A Bit of Lightning", which reached No. 38 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Songs Charts.
