George Dale "The Fox" Williams, also known as George Williams, born on November 5, 1917, in New Orleans, was an American arranger, pianist, and composer active during the Swing era. He grew up in Oakland, California, and initially played baseball professionally before transitioning to music. Williams' breakthrough came in 1939 when he began joining Bob Astor's band and later arranging for Jimmie Lunceford. He worked with Lionel Hampton's band and Sonny Dunham's big band, moving to the East Coast to arrange for Glenn Miller until the band disbanded due to World War II. Post-war, he arranged for notable big bands, including those led by Gene Krupa, Ray Anthony, Harry James, and Vaughn Monroe. Williams formed his own orchestra in 1954 and released albums such as We Could Make Such Beautiful Music (1956) and Swing Classics In Hi-Fi (1959). He died on April 17, 1988.
