Gerard W. Kenny, born July 8, 1947 in New York City, United States, is an American singer-songwriter. He formed his first band while still in high school and began touring the club circuit through the early 1970s. In 1968, he secured his first recording contract with Warner Bros. Records, releasing several singles that did not chart significantly. He also recorded for Buddah and Laurie; one of the singles on the latter, "Happiest Man", is now collectable. He relocated to London in 1977 and achieved his first hit single the following year with "New York, New York (So Good They Named It Twice)", which spent two months on the UK Singles Chart. His parent album Made It Through the Rain reached Number 19 in 1979. Another notable single, "Fantasy", became a chart hit in 1980 and was featured prominently in the Philippines. His composition "I Could Be So Good for You" served as the theme tune for the ITV series Minder, earning him an Ivor Novello Award for Best Television Theme Music in 1981. In 1985, he charted again with "No Man's Land", the theme song from the ITV drama series Widows. He went on to continue to record and release music periodically, with his songs being covered by notable artists such as Barry Manilow, Johnny Mathis, and Shirley Bassey.
