Born in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, England on October 14, 1945, Colin Hodgkinson is a rock, blues, and jazz bassist. He’s released two solo albums during his 50+ year career, but he is best known as a prolific sideman and studio musician. His first band, the Dynatones, formed in 1959 and split up a year after opening for the Beatles in 1964. Turning professional in 1966, he joined the Eric Delaney Band, but stayed with them for less than a year. Moving to London, he began playing with local bands. He played with artists such as Tramline and New Church in 1969 before joining Alexis Korner’s band and making his first appearance on the 1971 album Alexis Korner. Colin Hodgkinson would end up playing on many of Korner’s albums until Korner’s death in 1984. Hodgkinson co-founded the band Back Door, who released their self-titled debut album in 1972. His work as a session musician continued, including stints with Jamie Stone, Hammer, K2, Butterflies, Cozy Powell, Schon & Hammer, Whitesnake, Mick Jagger, Pete York, James Young & Jan Hammer, Spencer Davis Group, John Lord, Ten Years After, and many others. His band Back Door released several albums over the course of his career including Another Fine Mess (1975) and Activate (1976). In 1998, he released his first solo album, The Bottom Line. A decade later, he issued the album Back Door Too! (2008).
