Cobra Verde, a rock band from Cleveland, Ohio, was formed in 1994. The group initially started as a studio project for Scat Records, releasing their debut album Viva La Muerte in 1994 and the EP Vintage Crime in 1995. The band's lineup evolved over time, with John Petkovic serving as the sole continuous member. In 1998, Mark Klein, Ed Sotelo, Frank Vazzano, and Tim Parnin joined, forming the longest-running line-up for Cobra Verde. Their breakthrough came with the release of Nightlife in 1999, which received critical acclaim from various publications, including Alternative Press and The New York Times. The band's music has been featured on television programs such as True Blood, Entourage, and The OC. Notable albums include Easy Listening (2003) and Haven't Slept All Year (2008). Cobra Verde is known for their post-punk, glam rock sound, with comparisons drawn to bands like MC5.
