J.J. Fad, an American female rap group from Rialto, California, was formed in 1985 by Juana Burns, Dania Birks, Anna Cash, Fatima Shaheed, and Juanita Lee. The group's name initially stood for the members' given names but later became "Just Jammin', Fresh and Def." J.J. Fad released their first single "Anotha Ho" backed with "Supersonic" in 1987. Due to internal disagreements, Cash, Shaheed, and Lee left, and Burns and Birks were joined by Michelle Franklin and DJ Train. The re-recorded version of "Supersonic" was released in 1988 and sold 400,000 copies independently before securing a major-label recording contract with Atco Records. The subsequent album Supersonic were certified gold in 1988, achieving double platinum status by mid-1992. In 1990, J.J. Fad released their follow-up album Not Just a Fad, which failed to make an impact, leading to the group's disbandment shortly afterward. DJ Train died in 1994 of smoke inhalation. After almost two decades out of the music industry, J.J. Fad reunited in 2021 to perform at old-school and freestyle concerts. Their hit single "Supersonic" has been sampled by MF Doom in his song "Hoecakes" from Mm.. Food (2004) and interpolated by Fergie in her song "Fergalicious" (2006).
