Uncle Dog, a British musical group, formed in 1972. The band's lineup included Carol Grimes on vocals, Terry Stannard on drums and percussion, Phillip Crooks on guitar, Sam Mitchell on guitar, John Porter on guitar and bass, David Skinner on keyboards and vocals, and John Pearson on drums. Uncle Dog released their debut album Old Hat in January 1972. Pearson played on four tracks before being replaced by Terry Stannard for the remainder of the album. Notable guest musicians included Paul Kossoff on guitar for "We Got Time" and John 'Rabbit' Bundrick on piano. The album featured several original compositions by David Skinner, along with covers such as Bob Dylan's "I'll Be Your Baby Tonight" and Sam Phillips/Herman Parker's "Mystery Train". In 1972, Uncle Dog also released the single "River Road" b/w "First Night", which peaked at Number 86 on the US Hot 100. Following their debut album, various members of Uncle Dog went on to notable careers; John Porter produced albums for The Smiths and John Lee Hooker's comeback in 1989, Sam Mitchell played with Clancy and The Sandmen, David Skinner was part of Clancy and 801, and Terry Stannard formed the hit band Kokomo.
