The Curtains, an American band founded by Chris Cohen and visual artist Trevor Shimizu in San Francisco, California, in 2000, initially gained traction with their first three albums. These releases were predominantly instrumental and featured electric guitar, Realistic Concertmate MG-1, and drums. Influenced by film soundtracks, TV jingles, West Coast jazz, and early electronic music, The Curtains evolved towards melodic, vocal-based pop music. The band released albums such as Hit Car Tunes (2001), Fast Talks (2002), Flybys (2003), and Vehicles of Travel (2004). They also collaborated with Maher Shalal Hash Baz, recording as members on the album Faux Depart. The Curtains toured extensively, opening for notable acts such as Red Krayola, Saccharine Trust, Young People, Joan of Arc, Glass Candy, and Beirut. Their lineup changed frequently, with Chris Cohen remaining the sole continuous member. In 2006, they released their final album, Calamity, under Asthmatic Kitty Records.
