The Jule Neigel Band was formed in Mannheim in 1987 from the blues band The Stealers after Julia (Jule) Neigel established herself as a singer. Julia Neigel was born on April 19, 1966 in Barnaul (Soviet Union) and grew up in Ludwigshafen am Rhein from 1971. The band performs with the members Julia Neigel (vocals), Andreas Schmidt-Martelle (guitar), Axel Schwarz (keyboard), as well as bass and drums, but the line-up changes over the years. The band plays German-language rock with influences from funk, soul and AOR. In 1988, the debut album Schatten an der Wand is released, which reaches number 16 in the German charts and sells over 250,000 copies. The single of the same name, "Schatten an der Wand", reaches number 30, followed by additional singles such as "Der Rebell" and "Nie mehr miese Zeiten", which consolidate their success. The second album Wilde Welt is released in 1990, followed by Nur nach vorn in 1992. In 1994, Herzlich Willkommen reached number 4 in the German charts - the album brought the band hype to its peak. Singles such as "Heut' Nacht" (number 56 in Germany) and "Sehnsucht" (number 78) are released. Sphinx followed in 1996, followed by Alles in 1998, which marked the last visible band activities, and the dissolution of the Jule Neigel Band in 2003. In 2011, Julia Neigel returned solo with the album Neigelneu. Ehrensache followed in 2020, reaching number 13 in the German charts. She also appeared as a singer with the East German rock band Silly from 2019; the band reached number 7 in the German charts with the album Instandbesetzt (2021).
