Maria Josefina Albert, known professionally as Joey Albert, was born on March 19, 1960 in the Philippines. She began her professional singing career in 1981 and won the Dream Girl Filipina contest on The Party television program hosted by Ariel Ureta. In 1984, she signed with OctoArts International and released her first single, "Over and Over", which enjoyed tremendous airplay. Her debut album, Joey Albert, produced hits like "Tell Me", for which she received a Gold Record Award from the Philippine Association of the Record Industry, and "A Million Miles Away". In 1990, Albert moved to Dyna Records and released an album also titled Joey Albert, which included hits like "Only a Mem'ry" and "Roses in the Rain". She won Best Female Vocalist of the Year for "Only a Mem'ry" at the 1990 Awit Awards.
