Although currently a resident of the Lake Como region of Italy, classical pianist Ingrid Fliter was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She began her formal piano studies under the guidance of Elizabeth Westerkamp and gave her first formal recital at the age of eleven and at 16 was performing her first concerto at Argentina's premier opera house, Teatro Colón.
At the age of 19 she was encouraged by the world famous Argentinian pianist Martha Agerich to move to Europe to further her musical education and career prospects. Fliter heeded the advice and enrolled at the Hochschule für Musik in Freiburg where she studied under the Ukrainian classical pianist and music professor Vitalj Margulis.
Fliter became a regular entrant on the international piano competition circuit winning numerous prizes in Europe and in her native Argentina including first prize in the Cantu International Competition. She has now become an established figure within classical music and has a busy recording career working primarily for EMI Classics and the Glasgow-based classical music specialists Linn Records.
