Gré Brouwenstijn, born Gerda Demphina on August 26, 1915, in Den Helder, Netherlands, was a Dutch soprano. She studied at the Amsterdam Music Academy and debuted in 1940 as one of the three ladies in Mozart's The Magic Flute in Amsterdam. During World War II, she performed primarily as a concert singer. In 1946, Brouwenstijn joined the Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam, achieving notable success in Puccini's Tosca and Beethoven's Fidelio. She became a central figure at the annual Holland Festival from 1949 and made her debut at the Bayreuth Festival in 1954 as Elisabeth in Wagner's Tannhäuser, becoming a star of the festival until 1957. Brouwenstijn performed extensively at the Vienna State Opera from 1956 to 1960. Her final performance was as Leonore in Beethoven’s Fidelio at the Amsterdam Opera in 1971. She passed away on December 14, 1999, in Amsterdam.
