Gopal Shankar Misra, born in 1957 in Kanpur, India, was an Indian musician and music teacher who played vichitra veena. He began his musical journey at a young age, studying vocal music and sitar from the age of four. In 197 he made his debut performance in Varanasi, accompanied by Chhotelal Mishra. Misra's career took a significant turn when he was invited to join the 1998 UK touring and Real World recording project by State of Bengal and Ananda Shankar. Following his death in 1999, an EP titled Out of Stillness was released posthumously in 2000.
