Gérard Korsten, known as Gé Korsten, was born on December 6, 1927, in Rotterdam, Netherlands, and was a South African tenor singer and actor. He emigrated to South Africa at age nine and began singing in choirs at 20. Korsten received formal training from Adelheid Armhold at the South African College of Music in 1952 and debuted as Canio in Pagliacci in 1956. He became a founding member of Die Pretoriase Operagroep and performed over 3,000 times across 23 roles. His first album, Sing uit die hart, was released in 1965. In 1970, Korsten dedicated himself fully to singing after selling his business. Over four decades, he released 58 albums, nine of which achieved gold status. Notable songs include "Liefling" and "Erika", the latter featured in the film Kruger Miljoene. Korsten also acted in films such as Hoor my lied and received six Sarie Awards. He passed away on September 29, 1999.
