Ecstasy, Passion & Pain are a disco band founded in New York City in 1972 by Barbara Roy. The group emerged during the height of the disco era, capturing the spirit of the time with their energetic and infectious sound. Their initial breakthrough came with the single "Touch and Go", which featured Roy as the lead singer and peaked at number 4 on the Billboard Dance chart in 1974. Following this achievement, Ecstasy, Passion & Pain released several other notable singles. "Ask Me" spent two weeks at number 2 on the American dance charts later that year and reached number 19 on the soul charts and number 52 on the Hot 100. Another standout release was 1974's "Good Things Don't Last Forever", which charted at number 14 on the Billboard Hot Soul Singles chart in 1974. Despite these achievements, Ecstasy, Passion & Pain disbanded in 1977 after their singles "Passion" and "Dance the Night Away" failed to replicate the success of earlier releases.
