Jeanette MacLeod was born in 1946 in Glasgow, Scotland and began performing as a singer at age four. She decided to pursue jazz singing as a teenager, inspired by vocalists like Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday. In 1970, MacLeod moved to West Germany and performed extensively across Europe, establishing herself as a swing singer. She collaborated with bands such as the Rudi Reindl Big Band and Stuttgarter Small Stars, recording an album with the latter in 1981 titled Stuttgarter Small Stars & Jeanette McLeod Live. MacLeod also worked with Stuttgart-based pianist Frieder Berlin, resulting in the album The Voice of Swing released in 1991. She returned to Scotland in 1999 and continued performing until her final appearance at the Cave 61 jazz club in 2009. MacLeod passed away on December 14, 2011.
