Malcolm Braff, born on June 10, 1970, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is a Swiss pianist. He began classical piano training at age five in Dakar, Senegal, winning his first music prize by six. His family moved to Switzerland in 1983, where he studied musicology in Geneva before enrolling at the conservatory of Neuchâtel and then Geneva. A pivotal moment came in 1989 when he discovered jazz at the Montreux Jazz Festival, leading him to study under François Lindemann. Braff's career includes diverse musical projects such as the afro-jazz quintet C.O.M.B.O., Indian Project with Erik Truffaz, and Malcolm Braff Trio. He has released over twenty albums, notably Yele (2006), Voltage (2010), and Inside (2011). His work has been featured at the Montreux Jazz Festival and Cully Jazz Festival. In 2003, he received the Prix jeunes créateurs from the Fondation vaudoise pour la culture.
