Scary Spice or Mel B. during the Spice Girls era, Melanie B had a more problematic career than Geri Halliwell and Melanie C. Her petulance during the Spice Girls era and her 1998 debut with Missy Elliott on "I Want You Back " augured well for the future. Unfortunately, the commercial nature of Hot in 2000 dampened enthusiasm. L.A. State of Mind in 2005 came close to disaster for Melanie B, who had become more of a media personality than an artist.
