Mutual Admiration Society is an American musical collaboration formed in 2000. The group began when singer-songwriter Glen Phillips and progressive bluegrass trio Nickel Creek—comprising Chris Thile, Sara Watkins, and Sean Watkins—connected over their mutual admiration for each other's work. After a chance encounter at a festival, they recorded their self-titled debut album Mutual Admiration Society (2004) in December 2000, which was released three and a half years later. They embarked on the "Mutual Admiration Tour" in fall 2001 and another tour following the album's release, featuring notable musicians such as John Paul Jones and Pete Thomas. In September 2007, several members began recording under the name Works Progress Administration. Notable releases also include the Mutual Admiration Society Solo Sampler EP (2004).
