Peter Neumann (born 8 March 1940, in Karlsruhe) was a German church musician and conductor. After studying church music and conducting in Karlsruhe, Heidelberg, Berlin, and Paris, he became an assistant to Michael Schneider at the Hochschule für Musik Köln in 1967. Neumann subsequently directed the music at the Carthusian Church in Cologne and established the Kartäuserkantorei, which he led until 2005. He also led the Kölner Kammerchor and the Collegium Cartusianum. In 1982, he won the Gran Premio Città di Arezzo with the Kölner Kammerchor. His recording career featured the Mozart-Messen (1993–1998) and a series of Handel oratorios, including Saul (1998) and Joshua (2007). Neumann served as a professor for organ at the Hochschule für Musik Köln. In 2015, he received the Bach Medal of the City of Leipzig. Neumann died on 27 August 2025 in Cologne.
