Rahimah Gerl Rahim, born on 9 December 1955 in Singapore, is a Singaporean-Malay singer whose early exposure to music began with performances alongside her father on television and in nightclubs, and a first acting role at six in Korban Kasih. Her breakthrough recordings began with the 1972 recording Mana Ibumu, establishing her presence in the music scene. In 1974 she won the top prize at the Kimi Koso Talentime in Japan, which led to representation of Singapore Broadcasting Corporation at the ASEAN Song Festival and the Golden Bell Awards in Taiwan. Her catalogue expanded with the albums Gadis Dan Bunga and Bebas, and later releases such as Suatu Memori (2003) and the compilation Awal & Kini (2006). Notable songs include “Doa”. In 2006 she performed at the Esplanade’s Pesta Raya festival and appeared on Singapore Idol, while in 2010 she participated in a production of Fried Rice Paradise. On 24 November 2021 she was awarded Singapore’s Cultural Medallion by the National Arts Council, recognizing her lasting contribution to the nation’s musical heritage. Her career, spanning over four decades, remains a significant chapter in Singapore’s music history.
