Head of Femur, a rock band from Chicago, was formed in November 2001 by Nebraska natives Mike Elsener, Ben Armstrong, and Matt Focht. Initially a pop songwriting project, they began performing live in 2002 after expanding their instrumentation with strings, trumpet, and orchestral percussion. Their debut album Ringodom or Proctor was released on 2003, following a signing with Greyday Productions. The band toured extensively before signing with spinART Records in the summer of 2004. In May 2005, they released their second album Hysterical Stars. Head of Femur continued to tour throughout 2005. Their third full-length album Great Plains was completed in May 2007 and released on March 25, 2008.
