Asmund Bjørken, born August 19, 1933, in Norway, was a self-taught accordionist and saxophonist known for his contributions to jazz and folk music. He began his career as part of Harry Waagens Orchestra, a central band on the Trondheim jazz scene from 1949 to 1953. Bjørken later led his own orchestras in Steinkjer and Trondheim. In the 1980s, he performed in the Egil Kapstad / Rowland Greenberg Quartet and, from 1990, led his own Asmund Bjørken Swing Sextet, featuring musicians such as Ove Bjørken, Bjørn Alterhaug, Bjørn Krokfoss, and Erling Aksdal. His discography includes solo albums like Accordion to my Heart (1976) and "Jazz Accordion" My Way (1979), as well as collaborative works with other Norwegian jazz musicians. Asmund Bjørken passed away on January 29, 2018.
