Bjørn Alterhaug, born on June 3, 1945, in Mo i Rana, Norway, is a jazz bassist, arranger, composer, and professor of music at the University of Trondheim. He began his musical journey as a bass player and became one of the prominent figures among European bass players. Alterhaug's career took off in the late 1960s, leading to collaborations with international greats such as Lee Konitz, Chet Baker, and Joe Henderson. His first solo album, Moments, was released in 1979 and won the Spellemannprisen for jazz in 1980. Throughout his career, Alterhaug has released numerous albums, including A Ballad (1986), Constellations (1991), and Stripped Down - Leisurely - Thoughtful (2023). Alterhaug's contributions to jazz have earned him several accolades, including the Buddy Prize in 1975 and the Gammleng Prize in 1989.
