Combat Wombat, an Australian hip-hop group from Melbourne, was formed in 2000 by Monkey Marc Peckham, DJ Wasabi, Elf Tranzporter, and MC Izzy Brown. The band's name came from their camouflage-painted van resembling a giant wombat. Monkey Marc met MC Izzy in Darwin in 1998, where they started the solar-powered sound system Lab Rats. In 2001, the band released their debut album Labrats Solar Powered Sound System, Their first notable performance as Combat Wombat was on Channel Seven’s music program in 2002, which led to a signing to Elefant Traks. In March 2005, they released their second album Unsound $ystem, which received airplay on Triple J with the single "Qwest" reaching number 2 on the Net 50. The album also featured guest artists such as Ozi Batla and Seed MC, along with Afghan refugees MCG and SMS.
