Ut was an American experimental band associated with the New York no wave scene, formed in December 1978. The group consisted of Nina Canal, Jacqui Ham, and Sally Young, with a brief involvement from filmmaker Karen Achenbach in 1979 before continuing as a trio and relocating to London in 1981. They released early material on their own label, Out Records, including the album Conviction (1985), before signing with Blast First and issuing In Gut’s House (1987), which was included in NME’s Top 50 of that year. Their final studio album, Griller (1989), was engineered by Steve Albini. Ut played their last concert in March 1990 in Paris, after which the members pursued other projects.
