Max Boyce was born on September 27, 1943, in Glynneath, Wales. He was a comedian, singer and entertainer who rose to fame in the mid-1970s with an act that combined musical comedy with his passion for rugby union and his origins in a South Wales mining community. Boyce's breakthrough came when EMI offered him a two-album contract after hearing his first album, In Session (1971), and seeing him in concert. The resulting live album, 'Live' at Treorchy (1974), brought Boyce into the public eye and went gold. His next album, We All Had Doctors' Papers (1975), reached Number 1 on the UK Albums Chart, making it the only comedy album to ever top the chart. Notable achievements include appearances on television shows like This Is Your Life in 1978.
