Bergen Big Band, a Norwegian big band, was established in 1991 as a continuation of Knut Kristiansen's Bergen Band. Initially led by Olav Dale from 1991 to 2014, the band gained prominence through collaborations with notable musicians such as Phil Woods, Paquito D'Rivera, and Joe Henderson. In 1995, they began an annual project with Nattjazz and Vossajazz, which continued beyond the initial three-year period. The West Norwegian Jazz Center took over administrative leadership in 1999. Notable releases include Seagull (2005) featuring Karin Krog conducted by John Surman, Meditations on Coltrane (2007), and Crime Scene (2010) with Terje Rypdal. The band received the First Olav Dale's Memorial Award in 2015.
