Penetration, a punk rock band from Ferryhill, England, was formed in 1976. The group consisted of Gary Chaplin on guitar, Robert Blamire on bass, and Pauline Murray as the lead vocalist. Their breakthrough came with their first single "Don't Dictate", released in November 1977, which received positive reviews but did not chart. In February 1978, Chaplin left the band due to management disagreements, leading to the addition of Neale Floyd on guitar and later Fred Purser as a second guitarist. Penetration signed with Virgin Records and released their second single "Firing Squad" in May 1978, which peaked at number 100 in the UK charts. The band toured extensively, including a notable performance with the Buzzcocks. Despite their early success, Penetration disbanded in 1979. They reunited briefly in 2001.
